The Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Department's graduate program has a global reputation for shaping students into future leaders across engineering practice, research, and academia. We encourage motivated, high-achieving students to apply for our M.S.E. and Ph.D. programs.

While an engineering undergraduate degree is preferred, outstanding applicants from other disciplines may be admitted with the requirement to complete foundational undergraduate coursework before commencing graduate studies. Specific prerequisite courses vary based on individual academic backgrounds.
The department provides Master of Science in Engineering degrees in both Civil Engineering and Environmental/Water Resources Engineering. Doctoral studies are exclusively offered in Civil Engineering. Prospective Architectural Engineering graduate students should apply through the Civil Engineering program.
Students must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a comparable degree from a foreign academic institution. A grade point average of at least 3.00 in upper-division (junior- and senior-level) coursework and in any graduate work already completed.
The minimum scores considered acceptable for admission by the Graduate School are:
TOEFL: 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT)
IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination
