The Master of Fine Arts in Theatre with a concentration in drama and theatre for youth and communities (DTYC) stands as a nationally acclaimed program emphasizing the interconnectedness of theatrical artistry, teaching methods, and scholarly inquiry. Naturally interdisciplinary, the program incorporates practices and research from diverse fields including theatre arts, feminist theory, performance studies, educational approaches, youth development, and cultural analysis.
By employing drama-based teaching strategies, youth-oriented artistic expression, and thorough academic investigation, participants in our program exhibit a steadfast commitment to guiding others, strengthening communities, fostering new ideas, promoting inclusion, and advancing social fairness.
This program equips graduates for various professional opportunities in educational settings, community and nonprofit sectors, and professional theatre productions for young audiences. Spanning three years, the M.F.A. degree emphasizes adaptability and supports enrollment in courses across the Department of Theatre and Dance as well as other university departments. Students complete their studies with a hands-on thesis project and accompanying written thesis, applying theoretical frameworks from multiple disciplines to practical work in youth and community theatre.
