This two-year program provides research-backed, hands-on teaching experience through comprehensive fieldwork and coursework. It aims to cultivate the expertise, abilities, and mindset needed for effective instruction in culturally and linguistically diverse urban classrooms. Upon completion, graduates will qualify to teach students in grades 7-12 at middle and high school levels. The curriculum combines elements from the current Master's in Language and Literacy Studies while fulfilling all Texas Education Agency requirements for teacher certification.

Qualification Requirements

Require all employees, including university students, to pass a criminal background check.
The Graduate School requires applicants to have earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a comparable degree from a foreign academic institution.
A grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or a comparable GPA in upper-division workjunior- and senior-level coursesand in any graduate work already completed is also required.

IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination
