The Texas Principal Leadership Academy (TPLA) offers a 12-month Master's in Education (M.Ed.) program that equips graduates to pass the Principal as Instructional Leader EC-12 exam and lead socially just, high-performing Texas public schools. With a first-time exam pass rate of 97%—surpassing the state average—our program has received a Certificate of Commendation from the Texas Education Agency for Preparing Educators for Long Term Success two years running, reflecting our graduates' success in securing principal and assistant principal positions within three years of completion. Building on our top-ranked Department of Educational Leadership and Policy's legacy, TPLA is an enhanced version of our Principalship Program, redesigned to better serve Texas school districts.
By 2040, TPLA aims to cultivate 1,000 equity-focused, culturally aware, data-driven school leaders committed to educational excellence for all students—a critical mission given Texas's evolving demographics.
Admission occurs exclusively in summer semesters. Applicants must choose 'Summer semester' in their ApplyTexas application; selecting the wrong semester or program track in the Educational Leadership and Policy department may incur additional fees.
