The Management Ph.D. program equips students to make meaningful contributions to academia and professional management through outstanding research, instruction, and service. Our professors regularly publish in top-tier scholarly publications such as the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science, and Strategic Management Journal. Many faculty hold editorial roles at these publications, with some in senior editorial positions. The department stands out for its wide-ranging knowledge base. Candidates learn to integrate thorough theoretical frameworks with strong research methods to push boundaries in addressing organizational challenges, from startups to corporations. A key program advantage is the direct access doctoral students have to our internationally renowned faculty members.
To be eligible for admission to the doctoral program in management, an applicant is required to have (at least) a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a high level of competency in the English language.
A score of 550 (paper test), 213 (computer-based test), or 79 (internet-based test) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or an overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is considered the minimum acceptable for admission to The University of Texas at Austin.
