The Department of Linguistics provides graduate programs for both Master's and Doctoral degrees. The curriculum focuses on theoretical approaches across linguistic disciplines, ensuring comprehensive training in five fundamental areas: phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics, and field methods. Specialized courses are available in the department's key focus areas, including phonetics/phonology, syntax/semantics, descriptive/documentary linguistics, computational linguistics, and signed language linguistics, along with topics aligned with faculty expertise. Students can also pursue relevant courses in Anthropology, Speech-Language Pathology, Computer Science, Philosophy, Psychology, Statistics, and various language departments.
The Computational Linguistics specialization trains students in Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing (NLP) theories, technologies, and applications. This interdisciplinary field bridges Linguistics and Computer Science to analyze and process human languages.
