The Structural Engineering Program at The University of Texas at Austin is committed to outstanding education, pioneering research, and professional excellence. We prepare graduates to take leading roles in engineering practice, academic research, and teaching. Our program drives innovation through both theoretical and applied research at knowledge frontiers. Current structural engineering investigations focus on pioneering concepts for new construction and infrastructure longevity, while examining structural resilience against extreme conditions like earthquakes, hurricanes, fires, and explosions. Additional research explores structural dynamics, collapse prevention, and advanced sensor technologies for infrastructure monitoring and maintenance.

Official GRE scores required: Send official scores from The Educational Testing Service (ETS). The ETS institution code for the GRE is 6882. No department or program code is needed.
Official transcripts - Applicants should upload one copy of the official academic transcript from every senior college they have attended. Transcripts are not required from junior colleges and community colleges.
Statement of Purpose (SOP) - Submit online with your application. If you do not wish to be considered for financial aid or have your own funding or fellowship, please indicate so in your Statement of Purpose.
Resume - Suggested, but not required. You may upload your resume onto the Cockrell graduate application.
Three letters of recommendation, preferably from academic sources
The Graduate School requires applicants to have earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a comparable degree from a foreign academic institution.
A grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or a comparable GPA in upper-division workjunior- and senior-level coursesand in any graduate work already completed is also required.
TOEFL: 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT)
