The BSW program merges liberal arts education with specialized social work training, emphasizing social justice principles and hands-on community experience. This professional degree prepares graduates for licensure and immediate employment in human services. To earn a Bachelor of Social Work, students must complete 122 credit hours of academic work, 480 hours of supervised field placement, and 60 hours of community service learning.
The curriculum equips students with essential skills for rewarding careers in both public and private sectors. During their junior and senior years, BSW students focus mainly on social work courses and undertake a supervised community internship in their final semester. The program typically spans three to four regular semesters for completing core requirements, all of which must be finished before beginning the field internship. The Steve Hicks School accepts applications for the practice sequence twice annually, in fall and spring. Applicants may be enrolled in courses when applying, with final grades verified at semester's end.
If you are an international applicant, you must have completed an accredited secondary school series equivalent to that of a U.S. high school.
Minimum scores acceptable for admission are:
TOEFL: 79 (internet-based test)
IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination
