The textiles and apparel field blends elements from arts, sciences, humanities, and business to create a multidisciplinary educational journey, delivering an engaging curriculum that prepares students for diverse career paths and further studies. Textiles and Apparel (TXA) students can choose from an array of cutting-edge courses offered on campus, in New York City or Paris, France, or through hands-on collaborations with industry partners in the Austin area. TXA scholars explore design aesthetics, chemical and physical sciences, and retail business applications.
After completing core foundational coursework, students specialize by selecting advanced classes that progress through beginner, intermediate, and expert levels. The curriculum emphasizes practical learning that mirrors this fast-paced industry, equipping students to navigate shifting retail landscapes, global traditions, product innovation, consumer psychology, fashion design, digital design tools, eco-conscious practices, and textile analysis, along with other key areas.
