Under the guidance of world-renowned faculty, composition students explore diverse musical styles and genres such as orchestral works, choral pieces, chamber music, electronic compositions, and film scores.
Emerging composers collaborate with ensembles and chamber groups to workshop and showcase their creations. CLUTCH (Collective Labors of the UT Composition Hub), a concert series supported by the University Co-op, highlights student compositions. Austin's vibrant new music scene offers numerous platforms for students to present their work at public concerts and festivals. Alongside intensive composition training, students can join musical ensembles and receive thorough instruction in music theory and history. Those pursuing a B.A. in Composition must also complete a secondary field of study along with general education requirements.
