The RIM degree program offers an interdisciplinary and comparative exploration of North American racial and ethnic groups, examining their history, sociology, politics, culture, and economics—including African Americans, Indigenous/Native Americans, Latinx, and Asian American communities.
Graduates of this major may pursue advanced studies in law or public policy, fields urgently requiring professionals with expertise in how race, citizenship, and immigration influence legal and policy frameworks. Career opportunities also include public sector research roles, advocacy positions in non-profit and private organizations tackling social and economic challenges, or media careers producing content on societal issues. Additionally, this program prepares students for secondary education teaching certification, addressing the growing demand for instructors in Racial and Ethnic Studies courses—now required in some states like California and expanding in major districts like Texas. The program directly responds to the critical shortage of qualified educators in this field.
