The Psychology Department at The University of Texas at Austin is committed to advancing the frontiers of psychological science while educating students and the broader community about behavior, cognition, and emotions. Our department brings together exceptional faculty, staff, and students at all levels to pioneer discoveries about the mind and behavior. Central to this mission is fostering an inclusive environment that values diverse backgrounds and viewpoints.
For undergraduates, we offer comprehensive training in psychology, covering both foundational theories and cutting-edge research on human and animal behavior. Our curriculum teaches students to analyze human behavior through critical and creative lenses, considering factors like gender, culture, and development while applying psychological concepts to real-world situations. Students also gain expertise in research methodology and statistical analysis, equipping them to assess scientific studies and effectively present their own findings.
Our program boasts more than 2,350 undergraduate Psychology majors and double majors, with about 570 bachelor's degrees conferred annually. Alumni most frequently enter careers in business, social services, healthcare, education, and legal fields. According to recent surveys, 64% of graduates have continued or plan to continue their education beyond their undergraduate psychology degree.
The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) offers Texas college students an immersive summer research internship on our campus. This program provides practical research training to strengthen students' qualifications for prestigious doctoral programs.
We particularly welcome applications from students in historically underrepresented groups. SURE participants gain hands-on experience with all phases of psychological research, deepening their understanding and passion for both laboratory and field studies in psychology.
