The Bachelor of Arts in Music is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program where students complete a twelve-hour music concentration alongside twelve hours in a complementary non-music discipline. General education requirements may also apply. Often, coursework from a second major, minor, or certificate program can fulfill the secondary field requirement. Music B.A. candidates must choose one of the specified concentrations or emphases. Admission into specialized tracks like music composition, musicology-ethnomusicology, music and media, or music and health requires formal acceptance. Those not pursuing these specialized paths should review the guidelines for the Self-Directed Study concentration.
Both the twelve-hour concentration and secondary field must be developed with faculty guidance, requiring approval from the B.A. Program Coordinator and Director of Undergraduate Studies. The self-directed study option can pair with minors (such as Arts Management) and should include music courses aligned with the student's professional aspirations. MUS 379G Capstone in Music/Independent Study Project fulfills the II flag requirement.
If you are an international applicant, you must have completed an accredited secondary school series equivalent to that of a U.S. high school.
Minimum scores acceptable for admission are:
TOEFL: 79 (internet-based test)
IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination
