The University of Texas offers undergraduate programs in Jewish Studies (available as both a major and minor) and Holocaust and Genocide Studies (as a minor), crafted to showcase the vibrant diversity of Jewish cultures, histories, texts, communities, and adaptations across time and geography. These programs also use Jewish heritage as a framework for exploring how cultural identities develop beyond borders, alongside concepts of nationality, racial identity, and ethnic belonging.
As an interdisciplinary field, Jewish Studies collaborates with professors from over twelve departments within the College of Liberal Arts and other schools. Coursework spans diverse subjects—from ancient texts like the Dead Sea Scrolls to modern Yiddish influences in America, Jewish communities in Latin America to Israel's multicultural society, and Holocaust history to its impact on current American society. Faculty members bring extensive specialized knowledge and diverse teaching perspectives to the program.
