The Bachelor of Arts in Geography program centers on our interconnected world and delicate ecosystem. Students can specialize in one of the department's primary study tracks, gaining proficiency in methods and techniques that form the basis for a rewarding career.
Earning a Bachelor of Arts in Geography, Sustainability Studies, or Urban Studies imparts valuable skills and broad perspectives on environment and society, empowering graduates to advance beyond initial roles. Department alumni are equipped for diverse professional environments across government agencies, non-profit organizations, and private industry. Students are encouraged to explore campus career support services like Liberal Arts Career Services and Texas Career Engagement. We highly recommend all students register for Handshake, the LACS career management platform. UT's Office of Sustainability additionally provides an outstanding online career development resource. The Department of Geography and the Environment also provides academic credit through internship courses (URB 360 or SUS 379L) that blend practical experience with academic work.
This track enables students to build technical competencies within geography. The objective is to develop graduates skilled in gathering and visually presenting geographical information, with the capability to analyze such data using GIS and Spatial Analysis techniques.
