The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS) equips future school leaders and administrators. Participants expand on their current knowledge while developing competencies to boost academic achievement, strengthen school culture, elevate instructional quality, and enhance institutional performance across K-12 and higher education settings. The program offers two specialization tracks: principal certification (for PK-12 settings) or higher education administration. This non-thesis graduate program requires completion of 30 credit hours.
Coursework, instructional format, and admission criteria vary between the two specialization paths (Principal Certification or Higher Education Administration).
The principal preparation track is delivered through online instruction. (A Principal Certification-only pathway exists for candidates holding an accredited master's degree who satisfy all other prerequisites.)
The Higher Education Administration track provides supplementary choices: 1) a combined Master of Social Work and M.Ed. in ELPS with Higher Education focus, or 2) a direct B.A. to Ph.D. pathway in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. This higher education specialization requires on-campus attendance.
All students, including those enrolled in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies master’s program, must meet university, college, department, and Texas Administrative Code qualifications in order to participate in educator preparation programs.
The overall grade point average (GPA) of each incoming class admitted between September 1 and August 31 of each year by an educator preparation program (EPP) may not be less than 3.0 on a four-point scale or the equivalent.
