The Mathematics Department provides PhD programs covering various mathematical disciplines such as algebra, geometry, applied mathematics, computational mathematics, data science, mathematical biology, mathematics education, and probability, along with statistics. Students can pursue their doctorate through two pathways: either by first earning a Master's degree before transitioning to the PhD program, or by directly entering the PhD program with just a Bachelor's degree (commonly referred to as the BS-PhD track). This advanced program equips graduates for diverse career opportunities in academic, industrial, and corporate settings as research professionals.
For unconditional admission a student must meet the following requirements:
A master's degree or at least 30 hours of graduate coursework in mathematics or closely related fields.
A minimum GPA of 3.0, as calculated by the Graduate School, on a 4.0 scale in graduate coursework.
For applicants whose native language is not English, a minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (or a minimum score of 213 on a computer-based test, or a minimum score of 79 on an internet-based test) or a minimum score of 40 on the Test of Spoken English.
