The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is a dynamic, emerging academic unit with 20 tenured and tenure-track professors mentoring more than 90 full-time graduate students, over 20 postdoctoral researchers and visiting scholars, plus numerous undergraduates gaining hands-on research experience at an advanced scientific level. Our faculty lead innovative research initiatives spanning analytical, organic, biochemical, physical, and inorganic chemistry, with many projects bridging conventional disciplinary lines. The department boasts cutting-edge facilities supporting world-class research across both traditional and interdisciplinary chemical sciences.
The Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry equips students with comprehensive chemical knowledge and extensive laboratory training in organic and biochemical techniques. Students master advanced instrumentation and synthetic methodologies using modern equipment. The program also cultivates essential analytical reasoning, effective communication, and teamwork abilities vital for professional advancement. This biochemistry degree is ideal for undergraduates aiming for graduate studies in biochemistry or industry positions, as well as those preparing for medical, dental, or pharmacy school.
Students must have completed official secondary school transcripts, diplomas, certificates and/or national test examination scores as appropriate for the educational systems in their country. In order to be considered for freshman admission students must have completed secondary school studies equivalent to that of United States high school graduation.
Official SAT I or ACT scores are required for entering freshmen with less than 24 semester hours of university level course work (equivalent to one year of full time study).
 
The minimum acceptable score on the TOEFL is 79 on the Internet-based test, 550 on the paper-based test and 213 on the computer-based test. The IELTS can be substituted for TOEFL scores. The minimum acceptable overall score of 6.5 is required for admission. Scores must be sent directly to UT Arlington from the Testing Service to be considered official.
