The Department of Curriculum and Instruction aims to train and assist skilled educators capable of addressing students' varied learning, social, and emotional requirements. Faculty members enhance education by producing and sharing impactful research, creating progressive programs to fulfill educational demands, and offering valuable professional services. Middle Level teacher certification students engage in practical training during their third and fourth years. They complete two field placements—one in higher-grade and one in lower-grade classrooms. These students maintain the same mentor teachers throughout both years. In their third-year fall term, they complete at least 20 hours of fieldwork, increasing to 40 hours in the spring. During their final year's fall semester, candidates spend one day weekly for ten weeks in their assigned classrooms, dividing time equally between both placements.
