The Department of Nuclear Engineering provides a Master of Science program with specialization options in conventional fission energy, nuclear security, nuclear materials, or radiological engineering. Students must complete 24 graduate credits, including 12 credits in nuclear engineering coursework and 12 additional graduate credits. Each student selects a research path in consultation with their graduate committee, tailored to their academic background, professional experience, and departmental research opportunities. The thesis option involves original, comprehensive research, while the engineering practice alternative offers a more focused project that may include design work, product development, operational studies, or literature analysis. Engineering practice projects typically follow thesis formatting for final reports, though alternative formats may be approved by the graduate committee.
