The MS program is structured to equip students with comprehensive foundational knowledge, develop technical research skills, and foster innovative, independent thought. Typically spanning two to three years, this curriculum prepares graduates for success in the field. The University of Tennessee Knoxville's Microbiology Department commits to delivering excellent education through both instruction and research, addressing the demands of this expanding discipline. Our professors actively investigate diverse scientific domains including immunology, virology, microbial ecology, pathology, microbial genetics, and more. These research initiatives receive ongoing support from leading organizations such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Science Foundation (NSF), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and NASA.
