The M.S. program in CPSC mandates that students complete at least 33 semester hours of graduate studies with a thesis, or 36 hours including a project. Applicants lacking specific academic backgrounds may need to take up to 18 extra hours in mathematics and/or foundational computer science courses (CPSC 5000, 5010, and 5020, or their undergraduate equivalents) to build necessary skills. All enrolled students must fulfill 15 semester hours from the core computer science curriculum. The program additionally requires 6 thesis hours and a minimum of 9 elective hours in computer science. With guidance from their advisor and the graduate coordinator, students may choose 3 more elective hours in a field of interest, either within or outside computer science. Alternatively, students can opt for a project instead of a thesis, requiring 6 extra elective hours for a total of 36 graduate credits, subject to approval by their advisor and the program coordinator.
