The UTC Counselor Education Program's main goal is to educate skilled, knowledgeable, and capable professional counselors for clinical mental health and school environments. This curriculum follows a growth-oriented approach focusing on personal and professional well-being, starting with fundamental skill development and advancing to ethical principles, theoretical knowledge, and cultural awareness for effective independent and team-based practice with diverse populations. These programs equip entry-level counselors for careers in clinical mental health or educational settings, culminating in a master's degree. The 60-credit Clinical Mental Health Counseling track meets Tennessee's educational prerequisites for Professional Counselor licensure, while the School Counseling program satisfies the state's academic requirements for school counselor certification upon graduation.
