The Department of Psychology at the University of Tennessee hosts both its biggest undergraduate program and largest doctoral program, earning nationwide acclaim for its exceptional scientific research, distinguished faculty, and outstanding students. With around 110 graduate students, the department offers three advanced programs: an Experimental Psychology program focusing on Cognitive and Developmental Science, Social Psychology, and Neuroscience and Behavior, along with two prestigious applied doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology and Counseling Psychology. Additionally, the department serves over 900 undergraduate Psychology majors, granting nearly 500 bachelor's degrees each year—accounting for roughly a quarter of all undergraduate degrees awarded by the College of Arts and Sciences. This program caters to two student groups: those pursuing an MA in Experimental Psychology to strengthen their foundation before applying to PhD programs, and those enrolled in clinical or counseling doctoral programs who wish to earn a master's degree as part of their doctoral journey.
