The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics provides an accelerated Five-Year Bachelor of Science to Master of Science (BS-MS) Program for high-achieving students. This program allows participants to earn a BS in Agricultural and Resource Economics, specializing in either Food and Agricultural Business or Natural Resource and Environmental Economics, within seven semesters by fulfilling 120 credit hours - including 9 graduate-level credits that apply toward both degrees. Following this, students can complete a thesis-based MS degree in Agricultural and Resource Economics (with concentrations in Agricultural Economics or Natural Resource Economics) in three semesters plus one summer, requiring an additional 22 graduate credits. Conditional admission to the BS-MS Program typically occurs during a student's junior year at The University of Tennessee. Since the MS Program mandates original thesis research, students must begin developing their research project with their thesis committee immediately after their third undergraduate year.
