The UT Martin Social Work Program holds accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE, located at 1701 Duke Street, Suite 200, Alexandria, VA 22314, phone 703-683-8080), recognized by both the Council on Postsecondary Education and the U.S. Department of Education. The program's foundational principle centers on advancing human well-being - focusing on how individuals interact with their social surroundings, which influences their capacity to manage life challenges, solve problems, and achieve personal goals.
Many graduate social work programs currently provide accelerated study options, allowing students with a bachelor's degree from a CSWE-accredited program to earn their master's in 12 to 18 months instead of the standard two-year track for non-social work undergraduates.
From the program's start, alongside academic coursework, social work students engage with both service providers and recipients. This hands-on approach helps bridge theoretical knowledge with practical experience through valuable exchanges with human services experts and the individuals they serve.
