The university provides a three-year Bachelor of Science track and a four-year Bachelor of Arts or Science pathway for students aiming to pursue dentistry at UT Health Science Center in Memphis. Upon finishing four years of professional training in Memphis after either program, the College of Dentistry awards the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. Detailed information about pre-dental program choices is available through Arts and Sciences Advising Services. The three-year Bachelor of Science in pre-professional studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, follows the curriculum described below. Participants must complete a minimum of 90 specified credit hours in the College of Arts and Sciences, with the Bachelor of Science awarded after successfully finishing the first year in Memphis. Those continuing their fourth year at UT Health Science Center, Memphis, are exempt from major requirements. The final 30 credit hours must be completed at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, prior to entering the College of Dentistry. Acceptance into the dental program is determined solely by the College of Dentistry—completing these preparatory courses doesn't guarantee admission. While a Bachelor's degree isn't mandatory for dental school entry, most admitted students have already earned their undergraduate degree. Consequently, pre-dental candidates are advised to fulfill all degree prerequisites before starting dental studies.
