Nursing offers a rewarding career path for those seeking continuous professional challenges. As essential members of healthcare teams, nurses apply critical thinking, problem-solving, and strong communication abilities to help individuals, families, and communities achieve and sustain their best possible health. This field demands authentic compassion for others, the capacity to integrate knowledge from multiple disciplines, and the physical endurance to keep up with dynamic work environments.
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) program spans four years, blending general education with specialized nursing instruction that starts in the second year. B.S.N. students complete 72 credit hours of nursing coursework alongside 48 credit hours of required and elective non-nursing classes. After finishing the program successfully, graduates receive their B.S.N. degree from the University of Tennessee. These degree holders possess the fundamental skills for beginning nursing careers and qualify to take the National Council Licensure Examination to become registered nurses.
