The Department of Visual and Theatre Arts aims to offer educational, creative, and cultural experiences for University students and West Tennessee residents. Through an excellent undergraduate arts program, faculty and students enrich the campus and regional community with performances and exhibitions that elevate artistic appreciation while equipping students for professional careers, teaching roles, or further academic pursuits. The department promotes scholarly work that cultivates artistic excellence, intellectual growth, and lifelong learning.

Aligned with its core purpose, graduates of the BFA program in Fine and Performing Arts will:

Demonstrate proficiency and advanced application in their chosen specialization: visual arts, graphic design, art education, dance education, or theater.
Incorporate cross-disciplinary arts knowledge into their primary field of study.
Employ critical analysis and methodological approaches within their specialization.
Develop a comprehensive awareness of the arts' global impact and societal value.
Formulate their own artistic viewpoint and creative identity.

Qualification Requirements

Official school or university transcript(s) with certified translations if the records are in a language other than English. Transcripts must include descriptive course titles, credit hours for each subject and grades received to earn credit.

TOEFL score of 61 on the internet-based version
A TOEFL score of 500 on the ITP paper-version, generally offered once per semester at UTM or acceptable from partner universities
