Students need to earn a grade of C or higher in all three introductory courses. After successfully meeting these prerequisites, students can submit an application to declare an anthropology major. This application, submitted to the Anthropology Department, must include academic records showing fulfillment of the progression criteria. Applications are evaluated as they are received. Once admitted to the major, students will work with the department to be assigned an academic advisor. The Disasters, Displacement and Human Rights (DDHR) concentration is designed for anthropology majors seeking focused expertise in studying disasters (both natural and human-caused), humanitarian emergencies, forced migration, and human rights issues, including policies and practices. The concentration maintains all standard anthropology major prerequisites and requirements. Course credits applied toward the DDHR concentration may also fulfill departmental distribution requirements for the major. To pursue the DDHR concentration, students must file a departmental form and complete specific courses within their 30 required upper-division credits. With approval, special topics courses, independent study, or foreign study courses may count toward the concentration requirements.
