Students wishing to pursue a piano major or minor must pass an audition for admission to the Music Department. The piano audition criteria are outlined below. Select three distinct pieces from the following categories-
A Baroque composition (such as a Bach Well-Tempered Clavier prelude and fugue or Scarlatti sonata), A movement from a Classical sonata or concerto (by Haydn, Mozart, or Beethoven), A Romantic-era work (from composers like Schubert, Chopin, or Brahms), An Impressionistic selection (Debussy or Ravel) or a notable 20th-century piece. The program includes studying and performing piano ensemble works (duets and two-piano repertoire). Students will also complete accompanying assignments and collaborate with vocalists or instrumentalists for recital performances.
