The curriculum covers essential topics like clay properties, glaze formulation, and kiln design. You'll have opportunities to fire pieces in diverse kiln types - electric, gas, wood, or salt - plus experimental methods such as pit firing, saggar, and raku. Upper-level students receive private studio areas and supervise teams during university kiln operations.
Cultivate your unique artistic voice through dedicated studio work that incorporates multiple forming approaches, firing processes, and material applications. Build core competencies in drawing, sculpting, design, and research to establish a strong foundation for a professional ceramics career.
