The College of Social Work provides a four-year bachelor's degree program at its Columbia location, culminating in a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). Accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) since 2012, this BSW program aims to develop skilled, ethical generalist practitioners committed to advancing social equity, community welfare, and diversity awareness for at-risk groups throughout South Carolina and other regions. The curriculum integrates instruction, scholarly inquiry, innovation, and public service to achieve these goals. Alumni will work directly with clients ranging from individuals to entire communities. Program completers will demonstrate the ability to: utilize behavioral science concepts and interdisciplinary approaches when interacting with clients, employ active listening and relationship-building techniques with diverse populations. Students will learn to evaluate clients across various social systems. Upon graduation, they'll be equipped to: analyze assessment information using behavioral theories and cross-disciplinary perspectives, establish collaborative objectives by evaluating client strengths and challenges, and determine suitable intervention methods. Graduates will implement support strategies for different client groups. They'll develop competencies in: selecting and executing evidence-based interventions, applying behavioral science principles and interdisciplinary knowledge during service delivery.
