Students will show proficiency in recognizing, defining, and resolving challenging engineering issues through the application of engineering, scientific, and mathematical concepts. They will exhibit competence in utilizing engineering design to create solutions addressing specific requirements while accounting for public safety, health, and broader considerations including global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic impacts. Students will prove capable of clear communication across diverse audiences. They will display awareness of ethical and professional obligations in engineering scenarios, making well-reasoned decisions that evaluate the worldwide, economic, environmental, and social implications of engineering outcomes. Students will demonstrate effective teamwork skills, including collaborative leadership, fostering inclusive environments, setting objectives, organizing tasks, and achieving goals. They will exhibit the ability to design and perform suitable experiments, evaluate and understand data, and reach conclusions using engineering reasoning. Students will also show competence in gaining and implementing new knowledge as required, employing effective learning approaches.
International freshman applicants must be high school graduates (students that have the equivalent of a diploma in the United States).
English proficiency is measured through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A score of at least 550 on the paper based exam or 77 on the internet based TOEFL is required. USC also accepts the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the PTE Academic Test. Students must score at least a 6.5 on the IELTS, or at least a 53 on the PTE.
