Pursuing a degree in biological sciences equips students with fundamental knowledge applicable to diverse career paths, spanning healthcare professions, teaching, biotech industries, environmental organizations, science journalism, forensic analysis, academic research, legal fields, marine sciences, and beyond. Our department's extensive selection of advanced courses enables students to either sample multiple disciplines or concentrate on a particular specialization aligned with their professional aspirations.
The Bachelor of Science program features a comprehensive curriculum that builds core biological knowledge while allowing focus in specialized domains like integrative biology, botany, oncology, molecular studies, cellular processes, and developmental biology. Students can also participate in hands-on learning experiences through undergraduate research projects and teaching opportunities. This program readies graduates for advanced academic pursuits or direct career entry, while refining their research capabilities, enhancing analytical and communication competencies, and developing problem-solving skills through critical thinking approaches.
International freshman applicants must be high school graduates (students that have the equivalent of a diploma in the United States).
English proficiency is measured through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A score of at least 550 on the paper based exam or 77 on the internet based TOEFL is required. USC also accepts the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the PTE Academic Test. Students must score at least a 6.5 on the IELTS, or at least a 53 on the PTE.
