The Popular Music Studies program at USC Upstate equips students with essential abilities to succeed in the evolving music landscape. Our program readies graduates for diverse roles including performing, song creation, composition and arrangement, audio engineering, teaching, sacred music, publishing, artist representation, event coordination, theatrical productions, or music criticism. Learners build foundational competencies in live performance, musical theory and ear training, historical context, digital audio tools, and industry operations. Participants also enjoy extensive performance opportunities through our five ensembles, receive personalized instruction while learning the business side from active professionals, and work directly with cutting-edge music production equipment. Students may also pursue a Popular Music Studies minor.
