The Child Development and Family Studies Program equips students for careers focused on children from infancy through age six. The curriculum also trains students to support families across various cultural, ethnic, and economic circumstances. Graduates can pursue roles as childcare professionals in development centers, family education facilities, private preschools, Early Head Start and Head Start initiatives, or as parent educators in learning environments.
This major combines liberal arts coursework to build foundational knowledge before specialized studies. The professional curriculum develops expertise in early childhood development, teaching methods, and assessment techniques for children under six. Students also learn effective strategies for engaging with families. The program culminates with a semester-long internship at a childcare or educational facility.
