At the University of South Alabama, students have the option to major in International Studies for a Bachelor of Arts degree or select it as a minor. The International Studies curriculum blends academic learning with practical experiences like internships and study abroad programs, preparing students to thrive in our interconnected global society. The International Relations specialization delves into diplomacy and modern political issues within their historical framework, featuring classes in political science, history, economics, and foreign languages. This equips learners with both the theoretical understanding and analytical abilities needed to tackle intricate challenges in our shrinking world. The program strongly recommends internships for all International Studies participants, with International Relations students recently securing placements in municipal and state government offices as well as with NGOs. These hands-on opportunities allow students to envision potential career paths and apply classroom knowledge to real-world professional settings. While not mandatory, studying abroad is highly encouraged for all International Studies enrollees.
The International Relations track examines diplomatic strategies and current political developments through a historical lens, providing instruction in political science, history, economics, and language studies to prepare students for solving complex global problems.
International Studies participants are urged to pursue internship opportunities, with International Relations students recently completing placements in various government bodies and nonprofit organizations.
Practical internship experiences enable students to visualize future career trajectories and understand how academic learning translates into professional practice. The program also actively promotes international study experiences for all students, though they remain optional.
