The University of Rochester's MS-PhD Combined program enables nurses with bachelor's degrees to obtain both a master's in one of six nurse practitioner specialties and a PhD in Nursing & Health Sciences.
This accelerated five-year full-time program allows bachelor's-degree nurses to fast-track their path to becoming healthcare leaders and researchers. At Rochester, you'll join a vibrant academic community committed to fostering groundbreaking discoveries through collaborative research. Our program provides the essential tools and intellectual challenges to launch your career as a nursing and health sciences researcher.
Our full-time combined curriculum develops your ability to conduct independent research while collaborating effectively on interdisciplinary teams. Prior to starting, you'll partner with an advisor to create a personalized degree roadmap.
The program features three demanding years of concurrent MS and PhD coursework, culminating in your master's degree. You'll then focus on developing and completing your doctoral dissertation while working alongside our faculty of accomplished researchers and subject matter experts.
The initial three-year coursework phase requires significant commitment, with weekly schedules packed with classes, clinical rotations, and study sessions. Maintaining a robust support network is crucial during this intensive period. We strongly advise limiting outside employment to no more than one day per week to ensure academic success.
