The Linguistics Department is seeking applicants for its fully-funded PhD program, which emphasizes interdisciplinary training and teamwork. Our linguistics faculty specialize in formal linguistic studies, using evidence-based approaches to investigate experimental syntax, semantics, pragmatics, phonetics, laboratory phonology, and morphology while partnering with experts from related disciplines. Our research addresses current challenges in language documentation, corpus linguistics, dialect studies, and psycholinguistics.
As a key participant in Rochester's Center for Language Sciences, we collaborate regularly with scholars from computer science, philosophy, biomedical engineering, cognitive science, and the Eastman School of Music. Interdepartmental cooperation is fundamental to our academic environment.
