Political science sits at the crossroads of history, governance, economics, legal systems, social structures, and theoretical frameworks. By examining governmental operations—its political dynamics, policy decisions, and practical implementations—we cultivate more informed citizenship both locally and internationally.
The University of Rochester focuses on the methodological foundations of political science, incorporating rigorous experimentation, data interpretation, and conceptual frameworks. Our department uniquely combines political science and international relations, allowing students to explore domestic governance through lenses of global conflict, economic exchange, and societal change. Rochester undergraduates can enrich their political science or international relations education through practical experiences like internships, overseas study programs, and research initiatives. These experiences strengthen both academic profiles and professional qualifications for advanced studies or career paths.
The BS in political science shares core requirements with the BA program but incorporates additional analytical methodology prerequisites. Students must complete at least one collaborative learning course.
