The Bachelor of Science (BS) program is a rigorous curriculum designed to equip students for advanced studies in physics or similar disciplines. Those aiming for postgraduate education typically choose the BS track.
Our department provides both Bachelor of Arts (BA) and BS options in physics, as well as combined physics and astronomy degrees. The BA curriculum offers a comprehensive foundation with room for pursuing a second major, while the BS program delivers in-depth training ideal for graduate-level preparation in physics or allied fields. We particularly recommend that prospective graduate students engage in independent study or research during their final undergraduate year.
Majors must be declared by sophomore year's conclusion. Prospective physics or physics/astronomy majors should consult with the department's undergraduate office before this deadline to receive a faculty advisor. Course instruction is primarily conducted by our permanent faculty, with graduate students and advanced undergraduates supporting workshops, discussion sessions, and laboratory work. Our adaptable program structure accommodates double majors, pre-medical, pre-law, and teacher certification pathways.
