Our students in cell and developmental biology explore cellular architecture, operations, and arrangement, along with its growth and transformation from simple unicellular beings to intricate multicellular organisms.
The Biology Department at the University of Rochester has consistently stood at the forefront of genetic studies. Though genetics serves as our unifying focus, our scholars investigate diverse subjects across molecular, cellular, developmental, computational, and evolutionary biology. Our academic community—comprising faculty, students, and alumni—consists of curious, innovative thinkers who make meaningful contributions not only to science and medicine but also to fields like law, business, and technology. We dedicate ourselves to fostering an optimal setting for education, research, and collaboration, featuring advanced scientific inquiry, thought-provoking discussions, and a secure, inclusive environment.
Integrity and diversity are fundamental principles within our Biology Department. We maintain that our success in research and teaching stems from embracing varied perspectives. Consequently, we actively seek and appreciate individuals from all backgrounds among our students, faculty, and staff. Our goal is to ensure a supportive atmosphere where undergraduates, graduates, researchers, employees, and professors alike can thrive in their academic pursuits, professional activities, and everyday interactions.
