The Warner School collaborates with the department on the 4+1 program to inspire students to pursue teaching careers. This accelerated pathway enables students to obtain both a bachelor's and master's degree (necessary for New York permanent certification) within five years.
Typically, students fulfill their BA in mathematics by taking two education courses that meet the advanced mathematical content requirement. This approach gives undergraduates a chance to begin graduate-level coursework for teaching certification and an MS degree during their senior year. For these Warner School courses to apply toward the master's degree, they must be graduate-level, and the accumulated graduate credits must surpass the undergraduate degree requirements. Undergraduates can apply for early admission to a master's program in their senior year's fall semester, though official enrollment begins only after completing their bachelor's degree. The program offers flexible completion options, accommodating different student teaching schedules during the senior year - whether that involves one semester, two semesters, or none at all.
