The Modern Languages and Cultures (MLC) program allows students to pursue clusters, minors, and majors in various languages including comparative literature, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Additionally, students can choose a cluster and minor in Chinese, or clusters in Korean and Portuguese.
Over 125 million people speak Japanese worldwide, primarily in Japan, but also within significant Japanese communities in Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Australia, Canada, and the United States. MLC majors typically complete ten to thirteen courses, with requirements varying based on prior language experience. All MLC majors begin with two common foundational courses, followed by program-specific core and elective classes.
