Modern Languages and Cultures (MLC) allows students to pursue clusters, minors, and majors in various languages including comparative literature, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Additionally, Chinese is available as a cluster and minor, while Korean and Portuguese can be taken as clusters.
Over 125 million people speak Japanese worldwide, primarily in Japan, but also within significant Japanese communities in countries like Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Australia, Canada, and the U.S. MLC majors typically complete ten to thirteen courses, with requirements varying based on prior language experience. All MLC majors begin with two common foundational courses before branching into program-specific core and elective classes.
