Modern Languages and Cultures (MLC) allows students to pursue a cluster, minor, or major in various languages including comparative literature, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Additionally, Chinese is available as a cluster and minor, while Korean and Portuguese can be taken as clusters.
Over 125 million people speak Japanese worldwide. Though primarily spoken in Japan, significant Japanese-speaking communities exist in Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Australia, Canada, and the United States. MLC majors typically complete ten to thirteen courses, with requirements varying based on prior language experience. All MLC majors begin with two common foundational courses before branching into program-specific core and elective classes.
