Mastering a second language provides numerous students with a distinct advantage. As one of the globe's most widely spoken secondary languages, French serves as the working language for many international institutions like the United Nations, Red Cross, WTO, and UNESCO, all based in Francophone cities. Key EU institutions and the European Parliament are similarly situated in French-speaking nations.
At Rochester, learners dive deep into French language studies alongside cultural, historical, political, philosophical, and artistic exploration. They benefit from intimate class settings, frequent faculty interaction, and international study programs. Our program also connects students with the vibrant local Francophone community through cultural activities, film events, language practice sessions, and culinary experiences.
Alumni who pursued French studies have advanced to professional programs in dentistry, medicine, and law, as well as graduate studies in education, humanities, and sciences. Many credit their success to bilingual skills and cross-cultural immersion gained through our program.
