Complete a bachelor's in nursing in just one year and advance to a master's degree in one of our top-ranked nurse practitioner specialties. Our Accelerated Master's in Nursing Programs for Non-Nurses enable driven students to become master's-level nurse practitioners at a prestigious upstate New York university. Leverage your prior healthcare background to transition into nursing and specialize as a nurse practitioner through this accelerated pathway.
When accepted into this program, students enroll simultaneously in both the 12-Month Accelerated Bachelor's in Nursing (ABSN) and their selected Master's Nurse Practitioner track. The journey begins with completing the bachelor's nursing degree in one year through our intensive ABSN program. After graduation, students take the NCLEX-RN exam for licensure before progressing to their master's studies. Many applicants choose to start with just the 12-Month ABSN to thoroughly explore nursing specialties before committing to a master's focus area. This approach provides extensive clinical exposure at the University of Rochester Medical Center, offering valuable insights into both nursing practice and the broader healthcare field. Admission requires a prior non-nursing bachelor's degree with at least a 3.0 GPA. Given the program's competitive nature and limited availability, relevant healthcare experience (professional or volunteer) in your desired specialty area is mandatory.
Applications are accepted for spring or summer starts, contingent on completing prerequisite coursework (21-24 credits). Our Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program trains you to deliver comprehensive care to infants, children, and adolescents. As a pediatric NP, you'll manage wellness visits, developmental assessments, common childhood conditions, and provide preventive health education for families.
These advanced practice nurses serve children in diverse settings including primary care clinics, school health programs, hospitals, specialty practices, and pediatric emergency rooms. The program also equips practitioners to handle behavioral health concerns prevalent in pediatric care, such as ADHD, bullying, and adolescent risk behaviors.
