Complete a bachelor's degree in nursing within one year and advance to a master's program among top-ranked nurse practitioner specialties. Our Accelerated Master's in Nursing Programs for Non-Nurses enables driven students to achieve master's-level nurse practitioner qualifications at a prestigious upstate New York institution. Leverage your existing healthcare background to transition into nursing and specialize as a nurse practitioner through this accelerated pathway.
Successful applicants to this program gain dual admission to both our 12-Month Accelerated Bachelor's in Nursing (ABSN) and their selected Master's Nurse Practitioner specialty. The journey begins with completing the nursing bachelor's degree in just one year through our intensive ABSN program. After graduation, students take the NCLEX-RN examination for licensure before progressing to their master's studies. For many candidates, we advise initially applying solely to the 12-Month ABSN to complete the nursing bachelor's degree. This approach provides valuable exposure to various clinical specialties before committing to a master's focus, while offering immersive clinical training at the University of Rochester Medical Center to thoroughly understand nursing practice and healthcare systems. Admission requirements include a prior non-nursing bachelor's degree with at least a 3.0 GPA. Given the program's competitive nature and limited availability, applicants must demonstrate relevant healthcare experience (professional or volunteer) related to their chosen nurse practitioner specialty.
Applications are accepted for spring or summer starts, contingent upon fulfilling prerequisite coursework (21-24 credits).
Our Family Nurse Practitioner program trains you to deliver comprehensive primary care across all life stages, including women's health services.
As a family nurse practitioner, you'll learn to address both acute and chronic conditions, facilitate specialist referrals when necessary, and provide health promotion guidance.
These specialized nurse practitioners view patients within their family and community contexts, with particular expertise in expanding healthcare access for underserved populations. Graduates practice in diverse settings such as community clinics, private practices, school health centers, emergency rooms, and urgent care facilities.
